Law of Supply and Demand

Supply and demand are probably the most recognized economics related words. Even though they are commonly used, the true definition is probably a little different from what most people think. Demand should not be confused with want. People want many things, but if they are not willing to pay for them, no demand exists. Similarly, supply deals with salable or usable goods, and all other factors being equal, as demand increases, the price goes up. Supply is more complicated than demand and an additional explanation shows that as long as long as costs stay the same, a higher price equals more profit. Therefore, a company will increase output (Colander, 2004, p. 91). Continue reading

No Bullet Points

What happens when a “guru” hypes a product that sucks? Well they sell a bunch and then we have a bunch of people following along. That is why you don’t see this blog, or me promoting crap just because I can make an affiliate commission. I don’t care if my products don’t get “reciprocity.” Screw you people that promote every affiliate offer, that is why I hit unsubscribe. Continue reading

Bye Bye Google

We don’t need you anymore!

What does your organization chart look like? How about your business plan? Do they have Google stamped all over them?

Check out this brief video, and sign up below for your free report to loosen the grip of the Google stranglehold. Please comment as well, I am curious if you think about Google the same as me. Are they a data-mining company, or an altruistic dictator that is only looking out for you? Do you think that Google is fair, or are they evil? Lots of questions, but I know one thing, I want to get rid of any dependence of Google by having alternatives  on my business, and I think you should too. That is only good business sense. What Is Your Story

Or why nobody cares.

I was talking to a few internet marketers the other day and we were discussing what makes a “guru.” This is a topic that not many people really think about, at least not the people I talk to.

We all agreed though that anyone interested in internet marketing should be asking why person X is a guru. By the way, several of them were “gurus” in their own fields, and yes, we were drinking home brew at my house. Sorry, I like beer, and that is my beer site (in case you are new around here). Just Hit Unsubscribe

I was at an event for internet marketers last weekend and a common theme came up. Who should I follow? I have to say the the IM space is the most polluted narcissistic, good ol’ boy club there is. People will argue with me, people that make more money than me will argue with me, that I am full of crap, and if you don’t promote anyone’s JV, then no one will promote yours. Well, guess what, I only promote the products of those I respect. Continue reading

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Even though not always seen as fair, alternative dispute resolution can save litigants money. Because of the money saving potential Cheeseman notes, “approximately 90% of all lawsuits are settled prior to trial” (2004, p. 4). Another consideration when deciding whether or not to go to trial is the potential financial return from any litigation. Court costs may be higher than any monetary award, and may damage the good-will or reputation of the organization. Continue reading

Chunking as a Decision Making Tool

Example of Chunking Using a Phone Number

One method of problem solving or decision-making is a process called “chunking”. Chunking is grouping or categorizing related issues or information into the smallest, most meaningful unit. Think about how hard it would be to read a 300-page book without sentences, paragraphs, and chapters. Chunking is a naturally occurring process that can be actively used to break down problems and communicate more efficiently.

Even though there is the possibility of losing sight of the big picture while using chunking, chunking allows logical grouping of data for easier understanding. Non-chunked data is harder to remember and many studies support the use of chunking as a memory tool ultimately helping the decision-making process. Continue reading

Creativity, Design, and Innovation

Some of the most misunderstood aspects of business are creativity, design, and innovation. Part of the confusion stems from the many definitions and theories that exist for each term. Taken as a whole, these definitions of these terms tend to overlap creating an even more subjective understanding and adding to the confusion. Continue reading

Economics

Economics is a new science and according to Heilbroner (1999) the first economist was Adam Smith who lived in the late eighteenth century. Economics is also called the “dismal” science, a phrase coined by Thomas Carlyle in reaction to the pessimistic predictions of another economist, Malthus (Dixon, n.d.). The phrase is also appropriate due to most economists being absolute pragmatists and never promising anything except every advantage having an associated disadvantage. Continue reading
